Our plan was to be here, at most, 5 years and then find our dream place (what I now refer to as "a house sitting smack dab in the middle of a hundred acres"; I would still love that peace and quiet).

Moving tips? As you can tell, I haven't moved in a long time. BUT I have helped our adult kids move a couple times each.

Make sure you label each box for what room it came from and/or where it's going. If possible, note on the label a general idea of what's in each box. Even better would be a list kept in a notebook or file folder.

Of course, save the important, everyday items you use for the absolute LAST things you pack! It saves on having to pack and lug extra stuff to your new place.
2) Set a daily box goal. I will pack 5 boxes today. Or I will pack all the books today. Okay, that might take you a month!
3) Label, label, label your boxes, even when you don't feel like it. You might need to open a box before your house sells.
4) Start packing away things you don't really use and need, don't pack up the stuff you use daily. Pack up duplicates or your mug collection. How many mugs do we really need?

Anyway, I guess I did have some tips. Oh, and if you pack away your spring clothes, make sure you KNOW where they are. I just found a box of winter clothes that I could have been wearing for the last month! Not sure red jeans will go over so well in January. Good luck and take it slow if you need, but get something pack everyday.Ginanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19234602.post-76572705339485760502015-01-05T17:17:23.000-07:002015-01-05T17:17:23.000-07:00white walls, take down all pictures and pack all p...white walls, take down all pictures and pack all personal items. One of my personal tips is to pack a suitcase with clothes, pjs, and meds for each person. Include sheets and bath towels. That first night everyone will want a shower and their own bed. I'd put the shower curtain in the "1st Day Essentials" bin in the post. Happy sorting!
http://hip2save.com/2014/06/17/12-packing-moving-...Angel Moorenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19234602.post-87333524253879722642015-01-05T17:31:34.000-07:002015-01-05T17:31:34.000-07:00Oh, how I wish I were in your shoes! Take any personalization out of your home (pictures, etc). People need to envision themselves in the space and not you. If needed, since it needs to be quick, rent a storage space for a month or 2 to get rid of excess furniture to make as much room as you can in your home so it looks more spacious (pack your non-essential items in the process to save you time when the move actually happens). Each room needs to have a purpose. ie if you've been using your dining room as an "office"...get it back to a dining room so buyers envision the space correctly. If needed for staging, rent a dining set for a month or so...staging is everything for quick sale at the best price. Get your carpets cleaned. Any imperfections will negotiate the price lower.Paula Bickelmannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19234602.post-49863596373192008332015-01-05T20:31:47.000-07:002015-01-05T20:31:47.000-07:00Color code boxes. Bring them into the house one at a time. Once one is unloaded, bring in another. It's the only way to feel like you are NOT in a perpetual state of unpacking. The inside of the house stays orderly and, well, unpacked, and the boxes in the garage will be there until you are ready for them. And my second best tip is this: color code your boxes by placing a colored sticker on the side of each box. Make sure that when the boxes are placed in the garage that all the same colored boxes are stacked together. Makes it much easier to be selective as you unpack.Jen H.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19234602.post-7714104883216915972015-01-06T13:24:53.000-07:002015-01-06T13:24:53.000-07:00LOVE that idea!!
