Prayer for a friend

I just got an email from a friend today that breaks my heart. I have her permission to share her request, so if you feel led, please pray for her.

About 9 years ago or so, her husband decided to leave her for another woman. She was one of those who got married young and had never worked outside the home. Her world was turned upside down. She's a strong Christian committed to homeschooling her children, so it was hard for her to find jobs that allowed her to homeschool and pay the bills, but she managed. Her ex-husband stopped seeing the kids, paid child support and alimony when he felt like it, even switched jobs on a regular basis to avoid having his wages garnished. The kids have pretty much grown up without their dad. He's never called, never tried to see them, and, the last time the kids tried to reach out to him, he told them he had a new family now and didn't want to have anything to do with them.

Fast forward to my friend's email. Her ex is taking her to court (AGAIN) to have child support modified. In the process, found out that she is now homeless and bouncing back and forth between relatives. So now, he's suing for custody. My gut tells me this is nothing more than his attempt to stop paying child support. But I could be wrong.

This is what she says:
please keep my family in prayer as the Lord leads, we have been part of F.A.C.E (A private school/homeschool)for many years and it has been a blessing. My ex husband is taking me to court for custody of our 2 daughters ages 17 and 12/and to modify child support, also wants to put them in public school. We are currently staying with family and I'm not working, but getting ready to take business classes in January in hopes to prepare starting my own business, he (my ex-husband is telling the court I can not provide a stable home and support them financially and also not telling the truth about many issues. I lost my apartment after ten years of residency. The girls have never been in public school nor do they want to and My ex husband has been an absent father (not having any contact with them for 5 years. most recently and in and out of their lives prior. there is so much involved, but I am in great need of a lawyer who will take my case pro bono, I know it is a lot to ask but bringing my children up in a Christian home is so important- Please pray that if anyone knows of a lawyer, and God puts it in their heart to help some how, at this point just praying that someone knows someone through the grapevine I know if it is God willing someone will come forward. My heart is broken at the thought of having my kids taken away especially with false accusations. Also we do not have anyone who can take us in, so if anyone is looking for a live in housekeeper or something including room and board please keep me in mind, my daughters all very well behaved and respectful. I don't think I have much chance to keep my family together if I can't prove I have a long term place to stay. Thank you so much for your prayers- and please pass this along to anyone you feel would keep us in prayer-

Please keep my friend in your prayers. I don't always agree with the choices she's made, but it makes me so sad to see this happening in her life. She's done so much to try to keep her family together.

These verses come to mind, reading the dilemma of your friend:

17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,
18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.

Psalm 10:17-18 (New International Version)

May the Good Lord protect her and her family.

A perfect verse, Susan. Thank you so much for that. Danica, I will pray for her. Please keep me posted ...

So unfair for your friend. False accusations are the hardest -- to take and to prove false. I prayed for her, that this injustice would be rectified, and that God would supply her needs.
