Dude, where's my spaceship?

Welcome to 2010!!

Growing up, I always thought of 2010 as being a mystical year, where we all would drive around in spaceships and live in a world that looked something like The Jetsons. But here we are. In some ways, the world looks exactly like it did back then. We live in houses, drive cars, and wear pretty much the same clothes. Then again, I'm sitting on my couch with a computer on my lap. I can talk to my friends all around the world in an instant, not the months it took to get letters to and from my pen pals. I can take my phone with me wherever I go, and some people even have these funny earpieces so they can go hands-free.

The last time the decade changed, some people were huddled in fear that a computer glitch was going to end the world as we knew it. Hubby and I ushered in that one snuggled up on the couch watching movies and planning our future. This time, he's upstairs snoring. When the clock struck midnight, I gave him a little kiss, he gave a little snort, and that was that. I'm not complaining, though I did miss snuggling with him. This time, the decade changed, and I'm a little disappointed that it's just another night in the neighborhood. Well, all right. Our neighborhood doesn't have fireworks every night. But I'm still sitting here, wondering why I don't have a robot taking care of this pile of laundry and there's not a spaceship parked in my driveway.

Oh well, maybe 2020 will be better. You think they'll have figured out how to give us all spaceships by then?

I want the Jetsons' maid to take care of my house. I don't care so much about the spaceship, I can live without it.

Yeah, if I had to choose, I'd pick the maid over the spaceship any day. Still, a spaceship would be very cool!
