The catch is, we have to sell our house first. And that house still has to be available when our house sells. But hey, those are all minor details and we are acting on faith that it's going to happen!
You don't get your dream home sitting around doing nothing.
In order to sell our house, we need to get a lot of stuff cleared out and in storage. Namely, my books and hubby's man junk. I don't know what it is, and I don't want to know. :) What I do know is that all of this is going to take a lot of work, packing, painting, and all that. And that's just to get the house sold! Our goal is to have our house on the market by the end of the week. Crazy, but hey... I'm hoping that my current house is someone else's dream home.
A funny thing happened as I started packing my books. I found ONE copy of my book, Rocky Mountain Dreams, that has no home. So... I'm giving it away.

Wow. Go, Danica go. I love the fact that you're going to buy your dream house. And you're acting on faith. That's wonderful. Wishing you good fortune in the sale of your house and the purchase of your new one.
Oh, how I wish I were in your shoes! We've been in our house nearly 31 years and I've been wanting to move since a couple years in... Our plan was to be here, at most, 5 years and then find our dream place (what I now refer to as "a house sitting smack dab in the middle of a hundred acres"; I would still love that peace and quiet).
Moving tips? As you can tell, I haven't moved in a long time. BUT I have helped our adult kids move a couple times each.
Make sure you label each box for what room it came from and/or where it's going. If possible, note on the label a general idea of what's in each box. Even better would be a list kept in a notebook or file folder.
Of course, save the important, everyday items you use for the absolute LAST things you pack! LOL
Blessings on getting your dream home!
Oh my, tips? I've been packing for over a year now and not sure I have any great tips.
1)Purge while you pack. It saves on having to pack and lug extra stuff to your new place.
2) Set a daily box goal. I will pack 5 boxes today. Or I will pack all the books today. Okay, that might take you a month!
3) Label, label, label your boxes, even when you don't feel like it. You might need to open a box before your house sells.
4) Start packing away things you don't really use and need, don't pack up the stuff you use daily. Pack up duplicates or your mug collection. How many mugs do we really need?
Anyway, I guess I did have some tips. Oh, and if you pack away your spring clothes, make sure you KNOW where they are. I just found a box of winter clothes that I could have been wearing for the last month! Not sure red jeans will go over so well in January. Good luck and take it slow if you need, but get something pack everyday.
white walls, take down all pictures and pack all personal items. Clear off counters, pack everything that isn't essential to the sale of your home. Keep an empty bin for your counter appliances in your kitchen. When you get a call for a showing, you can pack them up and tuck them in the garage.
The goal is to make the house a blank canvas the prospective buyer can imagine their stuff in. My moms realtor told us all this. It was a lot of work, but Moms house was on the market Friday morning, we had a contract that night...
My son and d-i-l moved a few weeks ago. She pinned this post of tips. I love the one about using garbage bags to pack hanging clothes. One of my personal tips is to pack a suitcase with clothes, pjs, and meds for each person. Include sheets and bath towels. That first night everyone will want a shower and their own bed. I'd put the shower curtain in the "1st Day Essentials" bin in the post. Happy sorting!

Focus on getting your current home sold...clear items OUT! Take any personalization out of your home (pictures, etc). People need to envision themselves in the space and not you. If needed, since it needs to be quick, rent a storage space for a month or 2 to get rid of excess furniture to make as much room as you can in your home so it looks more spacious (pack your non-essential items in the process to save you time when the move actually happens). Each room needs to have a purpose. ie if you've been using your dining room as an "office"...get it back to a dining room so buyers envision the space correctly. If needed for staging, rent a dining set for a month or so...staging is everything for quick sale at the best price. Get your carpets cleaned. Any imperfections will negotiate the price lower.
Color code boxes. Blue dots to kitchen, yellow dots to living room, orange dot to boy's bedroom, etc.
Would love to give that book a home.
Oh and categorize. Be careful to keep books with books etc
Mine is a move in tip. Once you are IN your new home and getting ready to unpack, store all the boxes in the basement or garage until you are ready to unpack. Bring them into the house one at a time. Once one is unloaded, bring in another. It's the only way to feel like you are NOT in a perpetual state of unpacking. The inside of the house stays orderly and, well, unpacked, and the boxes in the garage will be there until you are ready for them. And my second best tip is this: color code your boxes by placing a colored sticker on the side of each box. Make sure that when the boxes are placed in the garage that all the same colored boxes are stacked together. Makes it much easier to be selective as you unpack.
LOVE that idea!! And I will have the space to do it too!!
Absolutely, Jeanette! That is definitely in the plan. :) Thanks for the tip.
What a great idea, Diane!! Thanks!!
Wonderful, thanks Paula! That's exactly what we're doing. I appreciate hearing we're on the right track.
Wonderful, thanks for that Angel!! I'm definitely going to be taking a look at the article when I'm done here.
That's pretty much our story too. Well not the 31 years part, but close. :)
Wonderful, thanks Aryn!! I like the showing idea a lot. :)
Thanks Gina! We don't have a month, but I can do this and cut down the timeline. :)
I like the detail list!
Thanks Belle!!
